Meadham Confirms Closure

Once one of fashion's most popular British brands, not to mention the show that ensured editors remained in London for the final day of fashion week, Meadham Kirchhoff has officially dissolved, Edward Meadham - one half of the design duo that also comprised Benjamin Kirchhoff - has confirmed.

"Meadham Kirchhoff is dead," he told i-d this week. "Meadham Kirchhoff wasn't killed by the fashion industry, it was killed largely by itself. We were in a quagmire of debt and it was impossible to keep up with anything," he continued, explaining that the pair's studio was closed and their body of work - spanning over a decade - was discarded.

"One of the worst things about the death of Meadham Kirchhoff, for me, was the loss of the archive. Our studio landlord just locked the doors and got rid of it," he revealed, adding: "We tried to continue a bit and then the studio closed and I went to hospital. Me and Ben, we're never going to work together."

Following rumours last year that the duo were wrapping up their design partnership, a spokesperson for the brand told us in December that closure wasn´t on the cards, with Kirchhoff explaining that they were "figuring out the right way forward".

"Is there a way of selling directly to your customers? Can you avoid doing a big catwalk show? Maybe it's better to just quietly have a store. Or do private orders. I don't know," he told Style.com. "At the moment, even thinking about the alternatives seems too exhausting."

The last Meadham Kirchhoff collection to be shown at London Fashion Week was for spring/summer 2015.
